In this day and age the demand for assisted living facilities is on the rise. Most family members are busy working or unable to care for their loved ones and therefore a community or place that offers assisted living is an essential option.

A question may be, what is assisted living? This word for many, means still having your independence while knowing that you have the support services if you should need them.
In the state of Texas alone, there are over 3,829 assisted living communities to choose from. These communities assists residents with the basics of activities of daily living(ADLs) among other services.

Please note that these communities are different from nursing homes, while nursing homes provide a broad range of complex medical services, while assisted living communities do not. These communities are designed to give a “home-like” feel which is very attractive to potential residents and their families.

It is known that assisted living is regulated by state, each state has policies in place that dictates| the care and services that is required for assisted living communities to meet the state standards. Texas assisted living communities have to be licensed under the DADS licensure requirements. These communities typically provide meals, provide laundry and housekeeping services, medication supervision, and along with assisting with other ADLs and often provide an activity program.

There are four different types of licensure for facilities that provides assisted living in Texas. Types A,B, C and E. These range from residents who are physically and mentally able to evacuate the facility unassisted and do not need routine nighttime support, to those who may requiresupport to evacuate and needs nighttime assistance. The facilities are usually two sizes, small and large, with small classified as those with16 residents or less to large being defined as 17 residents or more.

People living with dementia, Alzheimer or memory care can find facilities that have dedicated Memory Care centers. They are intended particularly to meet the needs of these people and and is aware that safety and supervision is of extreme consequence. So when looking for a facility, the two most significant things you should look for is a secure environment with adequate staffing.
